Westside Animal Hospital of Augusta has been serving the CSRA since 1977. Since purchasing the practice in 2018, Dr. Dustin C. Hawkins has continued its tradition of compassionate, family-centered veterinary care while investing in advanced medicine, surgery, and technology.
A lifelong resident of Columbia County, Dr. Hawkins was raised in Evans and Appling, Georgia, where his love for animals began at an early age. Like many children growing up in the country, he spent countless hours outdoors with his dog by his side, developing a lifelong appreciation for animals and nature.
Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Hawkins attended Georgia Military College and Augusta State University while working full-time, first as an automobile mechanic and later as a veterinary technician. He has often said, “You can’t fix something if you don’t understand how it works.” That philosophy has guided his career, helping shape the strong work ethic, curiosity, and practical problem-solving approach he brings to veterinary medicine every day.
Dr. Hawkins earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine before returning home to serve the community that helped shape him. In March 2018, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing Westside Animal Hospital.
Since taking ownership, Dr. Hawkins has focused on preserving the warm, personal atmosphere that generations of families have come to love while expanding the hospital’s medical and surgical capabilities. He has invested in modern diagnostic technology, advanced imaging, digital systems, and updated treatment options to ensure patients receive the highest quality care close to home.
Dr. Hawkins has a special interest in surgery, diagnostic medicine, and finding innovative ways to improve patient care through technology. He is passionate about combining cutting-edge veterinary medicine with the personal relationships and individualized attention that define a true family veterinary practice.
When he isn’t caring for patients, Dr. Hawkins enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennifer, their two daughters, their poodle mix, Sanford, and their two cats, Smudge and Mr. Meowgi. Outside the clinic, he enjoys technology projects, robotics, 3D printing and design, restoring antique cars, keeping honeybees, and training in Taekwondo. He appreciates the discipline, focus, and lifelong learning these pursuits encourage and is always exploring new ways to improve both veterinary medicine and the client experience.
Dr. Hawkins is proud to continue the legacy of Westside Animal Hospital while building on its reputation for compassionate care, trusted relationships, and excellence in veterinary medicine.
